Paper artist Sam Pierpoint's charming animation calls for sustainable fashion
Paper artist Sam Pierpoint was recently commissioned by Greenhouse PR to create a short paper-cut animation for PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification), which calls for more sustainable clothing.
It's part of Fashions Change, Forests Stay, a campaign to help connect the fashion industry to sustainably managed forests and the amazing materials that come from them. "In this animation, we show the journey from forest to wardrobe, whilst communicating how joining PEFC can benefit the supply chain and fashion brands as well as the natural world," explains Sam.
The film reveals hard facts like how forests are home to 80% of the world's terrestrial biodiversity and that 1.6 billion people depend on them for their livelihoods. It talks of sustainable forest management and its many benefits, like creating resilient ecosystems, supporting communities and maintaining biodiversity.
"This is a global effort, so we reflected this in the opening scene," she adds. The animation begins with the globe and four different steps around it to illustrate each stage of the journey. All of the intricate characters, detail and landscapes were made with G . F Smith Colorplan paper.
Another recent project by Sam was her paper-cut animation for the Marine Conservation Society and its latest #StopOceanThreads campaign. "It was a joy to work on this project especially as plastic pollution is a topic that is very close to my heart," says Sam.
